oh projects....

Tonight we will quit dragging our feet, put our productive pants on and start on the long dreaded journey of giving our china cabinet a much needed makeover.

I keep telling myself, 'you will love it when it's done, it will look great, you need the extra storage space, it will give the kitchen a new look, it will be awesome, you'll feel so accomplished, just do it, start it, do it now, right now, not tomorrow....NOW'

Well friends, 'NOW' has come! Why is it that I enjoy thinking up these projects but once we start it feels like the project will never end, it's like the paint won't dry fast enough and that my house will never been clean again?!?! Oh projects! Projects and I, we have a love-hate relationship! But tonight we will start the next one on our list! (....why is it again that we decided to start a project that will take place in our garage when it's over 100 degrees outside? You see, there I go again, trying to put it off...NO not anymore! Today is the day!)

Wish me luck, I may need it! Luckily I have such a go-getter hubs, this project should be done in no time!

Pictures to come soon!

Water Dog

While we were home this weekend, we took our puppy (yes, he is indeed still a puppy although he looks like a horse) swimming for the first time.

**Side note: I have quickly become one of those dog lovers who thinks of their dog as they would their own child, talks about it all the time, thinks it is the cutest on the planet, can talk in disgust towards it but no one else can, worries about it if I'm away, pretty much gives it whatever it wants because it can do no wrong in your eyes, doesn't understand when others don't love it as much as you, etc. You know the type, that is completely and flat out obsessed. Hello, that is me now. If those type of people rub you the wrong way, well this is my disclaimer. I have completely become that person. I digress...**

Bentley has never been in the water before, minus the fact that he took it upon himself to jump from the ground straight into the hot tub one night! But there isn't much room for a 80 pound lab to do much swimming in a hot tub. Needless to say we were really excited to see how he would take to the water. (Plus we were secretly hoping that it would wear him out for the night.)

Well, I am happy to say after many scared attempts of even getting in the water, Bentley made it! He is an official swimmer now! He brings true meaning to the term, 'water dog.' In true (Obsessed dog lover) fashion, we were so proud of him! As you can see, we only took just a 'few' proud 'parent' pictures of the monumental occasion. Now it's just a shame that we don't have a pool at our house!

Someone should totally come up with a public swimming pools for dogs! It would be a win win for all parties!

We clearly had a great weekend! Bentley learned to swim, like clockwork the boys came up with their usual last minute pool games, we went to Summer Mummers later that night and came home with a consignment store find, a china cabinet that we will be giving a little face lift!

Great weekend spent with family and friends!

Summer Mummers

For the past few years we have made the 115 mile trip back to my home town to attend the summer's greatest event, Summer Mummers. What is a summer mummer you ask? Only the greatest thing EVER! All in once location you get to cheer, yell, throw popcorn and pretty much get away with not acting your age!

Summer Mummers is a play, (melodrama) that highlights a hero and a villain. Every year the plot is exactly the same, actors and themes change but the plot is always the same. The villain somehow takes the girl and it's up to the hero and his handy sidekick to save the day, and the girl. There are only a few rules at mummers, cheer for the hero and boo (while throwing popcorn towards the stage---or at each other) at the villain. Once the damsel in distress is rescued, the second act begins...the Olio.

The olio is a combination of different choreographed dances, random short skits and sing-a-longs. The show is concluded by the female dancers dancing the can-can and the entire cast singing, 'Grand Ole Flag.'

Sound like something from another decade? Well that's because it kind of is! Mummers started in 1949. That's 62 years people! 62 years of laughter and plain awesome-ness!

Needless to say as usual, we had a great time and can't wait to go back again! And in fine 'Pro' fashion, the night was ended with his usual 'popcorn angel' as he likes to call it!

Other highlights of the weekend are still to come, stay tuned!

Husbands say the darndest things

Setting: Movie theater, waiting for the previews to begins before watching the Hangover 2

Me: If you would stop playing your game you would have already paid attention to the message and that was...no texting or talking on your phone.

Hubs: I'm not texting, I'm playing my game

Me: Exactly, it's the light that is distracting. Besides, how about spending some quality time with your wife?!

Silence (Movie Preview)

Hubs: Man, I should have been in One Act plays, they always got to kiss the girls.

Me: (?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!) I think it's too late for that now. Bummer!

Now that's one interesting movie conversation!

so long sunglasses

One thing that I have quickly learned as I've reached adulthood is to never say NEVER. While I was growing up I always said that I would never marry another first born child like me. I had always heard that opposites attract and to be honest, I didn't know too many couples that had a significant other of the same birth order.

First born children in my opinion are generally: very reliable, tend to be perfectionists, follow schedules, not fans of change or surprises, are natural leaders and usually people pleasers. Hum?!?! Doesn't sound so bad when you put it in writing, now does it!

I have no clue why I was always so adamant about not marrying a first born. Why was it so important to be with someone who was opposite from me?! Maybe the old saying opposites attract should be changed to 'similarities attract'? Thinking back now, it made perfect sense for me to be with a first born. About 90% of all of my close friends are first borns, maybe that's why we get along so well....we can relate to one another completely!

While I would consider myself a 'momma's girl' I have always had more of an understanding with my dad's way of life. He follows a schedule, is on time and always has a plan. A true first born. My mom on the other hand is the baby of her family. She is very carefree, generous and easy going....and oh ya, doesn't always care about what time it is. (A first born's nightmare!) --Love ya mom! :)

Yet again...I should have known all along that it would only be in my BEST interest to marry a first born child! Life with two first borns from the outside must look very structured and organized. I will say, for the most part it is. Cue 7 month old, 70 pound, black lab puppy, Bentley. I will quickly add, life before Bentley was calm, clean and MUCH more quiet. Bentley is clearly not a first born!

Saturday morning I woke up to Nathan asking me why there was a single sunglass lens on the kitchen floor. Pre-Life with Bentley, I seriously would have wondered where in world that would have come from. Now....there is literally no telling!

After just a few minutes of searching he found this......

My first pair of 'nice' (not to mention my wedding present) sunglasses.....destroyed!

Did I mention that first borns don't necessarily deal with change or surprises too well? Ok, yes I did! It's true, we don't...not at all!

I am starting to believe that Bentley was in God's plan for our lives. He is crazy hyper (Sometimes I have to keep reminding myself he is still a puppy!)extremely playful, get's into EVERYTHING, drips his water ALL over our kitchen floor, sheds all over everything, is a human shadow, drags in dirt and grass..........

Bentley has completely changed these first borns lives, but at the end of the day it doesn't matter one bit because we have so much love for the little (just a figure of speech) guy! He may rock our structured life but while doing so he brings so much happiness too!

So in a way, thanks Bent for stealing my sunglasses and tearing them up...maybe I needed a little change to appreciate what is really important in life, and that's not sunglasses!
